Noun phrase adalah kelompok kata yang terdiri dari

1. Kata inti (head)  berupa noun
2. Penjelas kata inti atau modifier

       a. Kata  (adjective, noun, gerund, present participle, 
                 past participle, invinitive with to)

       b. Frase (adjective phrase, noun phrase, gerund phrase, 
                  infinitive phrase with to, prepotional phrase, 
                  present participle phrase, past participle phrase)

       c. Klausa (adjective clause, noun clause)

Kata dan frase yang terletak sebelum kata benda (premodifier)

1. Adjective e.g.  Handsome man (head ☛ man)
2. Noun e.g. English Book (head ☛ book)
3. Gerund  e.g. Swimming pool (head ☛ pool)
4. Present participle  e.g. Flying kite (head ☛ kite)
5. Past participle  e.g. Wanted man (head ☛ man)
6. Adj. phrase  e.g. Very clever woman (head ☛ woman)
7. Noun phrase  e.g. English book seller (head ☛ seller)
